What: This hilarious open mic is a favorite haunt of Midnight Publishing’s head editor, Ashley R. Carlson. With a $1 entrance fee, you can’t go wrong with the medley of performers who grace Lawn Gnome Publishing’s backyard stage every week. If you’re looking for something a little grimy, a little mysterious, and a little unpredictable, then check out the Pink Slip Open Mic and Lawn Gnome’s adjoining bookstore for a very interesting and possibly inspiring Monday night. What: This annual extravaganza celebrating Young Adult literature will be bigger and better than ever this year. Attending authors include NYT bestsellers like Suzanne Young and Melissa Marr, as well as exciting new locally based authors like Ryan Dalton and Abigail Johnson. There’s no entrance fee, and all books will be available to be purchased and signed by the authors. What: This is the 14th year for Arizona State University’s creative writing program to host their three-day-long conference on writing, publishing, and editing at ASU’s Tempe campus. Faculty who will be teaching include acclaimed writers Simon Ortiz, Paolo Bacigalupi, Adrienne Celt, Michael A. Stackpole, Amy K. Nichols, and Alissa Nutting. Attend classes on topics like diversity in writing, publishing your memoir, the relationship between author and agent, and much more!
